Requirements

The detailed requirements are given in full in the Bye-Laws of the Association, which are currently in force, but the following abbreviated version gives substantially the information that will enable an applicant to decide whether they will meet the requirements or not.

Honorary Fellow

This is not a grade for which someone applies, it is bestowed on a distinguished person whom the Association wishes to honour.

Fellow

A Candidate shall satisfy the Association that they have held a position of superior responsibility for cost engineering functions for at least six years duration and has been a member for at least five years.

Alternatively, if the applicant has not been a member for five years, if sufficient evidence is provided to demonstrate that the applicant has made significant contribution to the art and science of Cost Engineering, together with the requirement of having held a position of superior responsibility for at least six years.

Alternatively, by the submission of suitably deep documentary evidence that demonstrates equivalence of knowledge, ability, original thought and contribution to the art and science of cost engineering.

Member

A candidate shall have adequate Initial Professional Development. Including training and practical experience in Cost Engineering.

Additionally, the candidate shall be either a Chartered or an Incorporated Engineer and shall have held a post of professional responsibility in cost engineering for at least three years.

Alternatively, the candidate shall possess an HNC, HND or degree in an engineering discipline or has achieved NVQ4/QCF5 in Project Controls, and shall have held a post of professional responsibility in cost engineering for at least five years.

Alternatively, has had at least 15 years experience of Cost Engineering in lieu of formal academic qualification and shall have held a post of professional responsibility in cost engineering for at least five years.

Alternatively has attained a position of particular importance or a high standard of knowledge in cost engineering or a related field and has adequate qualification and experience in research, teaching or publication in the field of engineering economics or scientific engineering cost processing.

Graduate

A candidate shall possess an HNC, HND or degree in an engineering discipline or has achieved NVQ/QCF3 in Project Controls, and is making progress towards achieving the remaining qualifications for the grade of Member, and is receiving training for Cost Engineering.

Student

Every candidate for election to the class of Student shall satisfy the Council that they

[a] have passed such qualifying examinations or are pursuing such a course of study as may be prescribed or approved by the Council, and

[b] have received adequate training and instruction in cost engineering, or, is interested in cost engineering as an ancillary to the field their studies.

Every student shall be entitled to remain in that class only during the pleasure of the Council, and may be removed there from at any time by a resolution of the Council.

Associate

Associates are persons of appropriate standing who have an interest in Cost Engineering and wish to participate in the activities of the Association but do not have the qualifications specified for membership.

Companion

A Companion of the Association is a person of suitable standing who, whilst not necessarily personally involved in Cost Engineering, has been, or continues to be, of help and assistance to the Association or its members and to whom the Association wishes to acknowledge by granting membership in the class of Companion as an expression of Gratitude.
